Cenotaph

ceno·taph | \ ˈse-nə-ˌtaf

noun

a tomb or a monument erected in honor of a person or group of persons whose remains are elsewhere

The focal point of the Elaine Massacre Memorial is the cenotaph. It is 6 tons of solid concrete with cast-in-place aluminum letters, which were ground & polished. The inscription reads:

DEDICATED TO THOSE
KNOWN AND UNKNOWN
WHO LOST THEIR LIVES
IN THE ELAINE MASSACRE
